Sailfish and Tarpon In The Keys

| By Captain Jeff Shelar

Well, the fishing the past few weeks has  been great! Lots of variety with lots of great action. The channel fishing for variety has been good with some good action and eating fish. Nice lane snapper and mangrove snapper for the dinner table. The tarpon fishing has been gradually picking up with most fish in the 80-110lb. class. The past week the sailfish have been coming through on the reef with some cobia for an added bonus. We’ve had a few days where the sailfish have been tailing and we are sight casting to them. Lots of fun and great action. The highlight of the week would have to be Mike and Margie Christenson. We started the day off with catching two tarpon in the morning. Then we headed offshore and hit some sails. As we headed back in we found a big 60lb. cobia swimming on the surface. Mike pitched him a bait and hooked him up. After a nice 15 minute fight I netted him and in the cooler he went!

Well, Until Next Week, and yes, I’m writing reports again finally every week!
