Tarpon season is on! A few pictures from the weekend. Did you know that Tarpon have the ability to gulp air at the water’s surface? Tarpon have a specialized swim bladder, that is a a gas-filled organ that allows them to breath air from the atmosphere.
This enables Tarpon to survive in low-oxygen environments such as brackish or oxygen-depleted waters. Their ability to breathe air directly from the surface gives them an advantage in habitats where oxygen levels might be insufficient.
Often when I have a Tarpon on the line and it comes up to gulp some air its a sure sign that it’s going to make another hard run! Book your Tarpon trip today!
