Big fat amberjack caught today by Mason. It absolutely kicked his butt! Greater amberjacks (Seriola dumerili) are powerful swimmers and known for their impressive speed and strength.
It is said that they are capable of reaching speeds of up to 50 miles per hour when swimming in open waters! I’ve never seen one swim that fast but if it’s true that is pretty wild! Amberjack can usually be found near the bottom whether it be on the reef, a wreck, or even way offshore on the hump.
Mason was put to the test on this fish, it fought very hard. We released the fish so it can get even bigger and hopefully I can catch again some other day!
