60lb Amberjack and a Barracuda

| By Captain Jeff Shelar

Young Song and his lovely wife Renee went fishing with me today. Renee caught a nice Barracuda and Young caught a 60lb AJ. A less-known fact about Barracuda is that they have a highly specialized organ called a “spiral valve” in their digestive system. This spiral valve is a unique feature found in the intestines of barracudas and some other fish species. It’s a tightly coiled, spiral-shaped structure inside the intestine that increases the surface area for nutrient absorption. This adaptation allows barracudas to efficiently extract nutrients from their prey, aiding in their survival in various marine environments.
